I received my copy of Duval County Tejanos...a well-researched book on mostly 19th-century Duval County history. I highly recommend it. My great-grandfather Saturnino Vera is mentioned several times as the successful rancher and county leader he was. In this one page, he’s mentioned with his brother-in-law, Agapito Saenz of Rancho Santa Cruz, and his uncle Jorge Alanis of Rancho Las Ánimas with a few others for putting up the surety bond of $30,000 for Sheriff John Buckley. If you had a relative from that era, more than likely, they are in the book.

Thank you so much. I was able to order Duval County Tejanos...a book so rich with knowledge. We are the grandchildren of Maria Allen Palacios, daughter of O. G. Allen. We are also descendants of Julian Palacios (from his first wife). My grandfather Enrique Palacios is the grandson of Julian Palacios. And last, O. G. Allen's sister, Elizabeth Allen, married Archie Parr, and there began our lineage to the Parrs. Our father, Antonio Palacios, passed away last year. So, to have these pieces of history in a book is wonderful. Your book contains the big picture of how the county evolved and is very thorough. Thank you for your love of history and literature.

I am enjoying the clear, concise explanation of the land grants...Additionally, the side story of the history of the times is fascinating.

The history is very interesting and unique! The beginning of the county and the role that people had in its development was interesting reading and insight into the development of the county. It is a very good book. I recommend it.
